Birth of the Lotus

Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami inspires my affinity toward portraying the lotus. We are asked to visualise the lotus flower as an analogy of our full spiritual unfoldment. 
 
We begin our journey in our instinctive mind, the seed buried deep in the mud, bashing around with no real direction. We slowly evolve through the water, finally breaching the surface into the light.

In this work I am portraying the rising and flourishing of the lotus flower; it grows from turbulent water created with layers of stamping and brush strokes.
